Benjamin Britten War Requiem


This is a recording of the performance given in Tewkesbury Abbey on November 8th 2008. The CSO is joined by the 125-strong Cheltenham Symphony Chorus, the boys of the Tewkesbury Abbey Schola Cantorum and soloists Rachel Chapman, Richard Edgar-Wilson and Alastair Chapman. The whole performance is conducted by David Curtis.

This a limited edition double CD and copies are available from A.J.Chapman at Stonecroft, Bredon, TEWKESBURY. Glos. GL20 7EL and cost £17 + £1 for p&p. Add a further £2 and we will include a copy of the 27 page A4 size souvenir programme which includes all the text as well as explanatory notes and background articles. Some critical reaction to this recording of the War Requiem:


"There is no complacency whatever in the performing; because, of course, there is none in the conducting. The chamber orchestra is superb; the soloists also - apart from anything else you can hear all the words; the big climaxes are spine-tingling, everything you could hope for; the long crescendo of the Libera Me managed superbly by the conductor and orchestra and choir; the boys' choir always there without hesitation, right on cue and on pitch."
